Finding the Inner Me and more

The first 12x12 layout was a Ya Ya challenge where we had to pick a layout from one of the Ya Ya galleries and recreate it. Because I wasn't sure who to chose, I put all 4 names on paper, folded them then shook them up and had a student pull a a name for me. She drew Katies name. I wasnt sure which one I was going to do but, when I saw her fart girl layout, I knew that one was the one. Thanks Katie. It was a challenge and interesting to say the least. lol

The other challenges was to create a page kit. We drew names to see who would create a layout using your kit. Rachel drew my name and got my kit which she will hopefully post soon on her blog (along with the layout that I have been asking for months to have a copy of too. ;-) ). When she does I will post it here. We also drew to see who got to keep the completed layout. I drew Tanya's kit and Stéphanie got to keep it. Here is what I created using Tanya;s kit.

After all was said and done, and although unproductive, NavCan was a great time. The only thing stopping it from being complete was Katie's presence. Unexpectedly, her father-in-law passed away the week before we were to go away so she was unable to attend. Hugs and love to you, my friend. Although not there is body, we know you were there in spirit. xxooxx

7 Random Facts About Me

I've Been Tagged ... I never do these things on my scrapbooking/creative blog but, since Rachel tagged all 4 of her Ya-Ya's, how can I be the odd man out. So, because she asked, I shall respond.

1. I love to watch reruns of shows like A Different World, Cosby Show, etc.
2. I love watermelon. I love peaches. I hate anything watermelon or peach flavoured (gum, juice, etc.)
3. When I was 17, I joined my friends and became a smoker. I was "only" a light smoker (2 packs/week if that) and am thankful that it only lasted for about a year.
4. I do not have a high school diploma although I do have one from Algonquin College from the Developemental Services Worker program.
5. While I do not drink and have only been drunk two or three times, I do like the taste of tequila.
6. I have been chewing the same brand and flavour of gum for at least 16 years. (light blue extra, of course)
7. When I was a little girl, Captain Kirk was my imaginary friend. He went everywhere with me then. Years later, he even came to my wedding. :)

A New Look

I have been wanting to do this for months and actually got the instructions from Rachel months ago too. With everyone else creating their headers, I was finally motivated to keep up with the Jonses and jumped on the hayride too. ;-) I have some tweaking I would like to do but, for now, this will have to do.

My Ya-Ya's Get Published.

Each month, Becky Fleck creates Page Maps (or sketches) to help ease the scrapper's mind when creating. Last month, my friend Rachel, was asked to do a sketch to appear in the March newsletter. To see more of Rachel's work, you can visit her blog .. and don't forget to leave comments.

In the midst of selling her house (no comment), Miss Tanya had a layout published in Canadian Scrapbooker. I believe it is on page 96. Check out her blog and hopefully she will post it for all who do not buy the magazine to see.

Wall Art

Because I have 4 photo frames on the wall in my hallway, I wanted to keep it simple on the other side. I chose to use a 12"x36" frame and put a quote in it. This particular quote is by Eleanor Roosevelt. I heard it a few years ago and it caught my attention right away and has since stuck. Given the situation of our parental status, it is one that I think of whenever doubt rears it's ugly head.

Originally, I was going to leave the backing off, allowing the wall colour to act as the background. After some consideration and having my thoughts come to life when Stéphanie mentioned it, I decided to pull out the ole palette knife and paint instead. Unfortunately, the true colours don't come through in the photograph. I will try again when it is hung and, if the colours become more true with the right light and angles, I will change this picture for a new one. The words 'believe', 'beauty', and 'dream' are covered in Making Memories Espresso glitter.

Five Fabulous Friends

At last years Superbowl, Stéphanie and I placed wagers on our selected team. The cost ... the person with the losing team had to create a layout for the person with the winning team aka the Superbowl Champions. As you can see from the layout above ... I WON!!! Merci, ma belle. I love, love, love my layout and am looking forward to a layout for this years win too. (you guessed it, blog readers ... I won again! ) Cherie - you may use photos of your choice and have one year to surprise me with your wonderful creation.

I made this clipboard for a class I am going to teach in Winchester next month. The colours are bright which is out of my norm but they were nice to work with. I used a few different mediums to bring texture and depth to the design:

• first I painted the clipboard read then coated it with crackle paint. I did it nice and thick but didnt wait the required 60 minutes to set. Instead I used my heat gun to speed up the process. I covered it with a pink paint and sped up the drying process again with my heatgun. The final result was something that looked like bark.


• I used Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels on the chipboard letters.


• Doodlebug Paper Frills are covered in Tim Holtz crackle paint. Once dry, they too were misted with glimmer mist with the excess dabbed off.


• Heidi Swapp ghost butterflies are painted the same red as the first paint coat of the clipboard.


• The clip itself is covered with cranberry Alcohol Ink by Tim Holtz.
• Ice Stickles were used as drops along the bottom to subtley dray the eye to the Heidi Swap ghost heart in the corner.
