As Per Barb's Request...

Due to some unforseen sad events plus being crazy busy, my blog as gone a tad to the way side. While there has been some creating, there has been no sharing. For this, my loyal blog readers, I apologize. (Katie - did you check again or have you completely given up :-) )

To date, I have:
  • done a layout for my Mom's 50th b-day celebration telling her about her gift/trip to New York
  • a mini chipboard/Maya Road album for guests to sign and a keepsake for photos. (all ready to go .... just add photos)
  • I have also done 140 wedding invitations and reception only cards for Kevin's cousin's wedding (thanks to all the cousins and wedding party who helped ..what a relief it was not to have to do it alone)
  • For Keepsakes is having a Mega Crop on June 9th. For that I created the above gift ideas. Cards are good but, I have to admit, these it is nice trying something new.
  • This weekend at NavCan was very productive ... for me at least. If it wasnt for getting sick and seeking medical attention, I actually would have completed my entire mini album (10 Things I Love About Us) I got to number 8 so that wasnt too bad. The Ya-Ya's also did a layout challenge where we swapped photos. Stéphanie got photos of my sweet Rye (our boxer whom we lost to cancer two years ago) and Koda (our chocolate lab who died suddenly and tragically last month) and created a beautiful layout in their honour. I was lucky. I got to scrap a layout for Tanya using the brand new products from her company, Ooh La La Designs. I will have to get it from her and post it soon.

As you can see, I have been creating. Now I just need to post. Thanks for checking in, Barb. HUGS to you, my friend. :-)

Mixed Media

what a great class. katie, stéphanie, tanya, debbie and i all took a mixed media class on friday night. as always, a fine mess is amazing and very inspirational. i almost packed it in but genna saved the day by helping me with the dry brushing aspect of it. i added the photos yesterday and hung it today in my spare room looking out into my hallway. i love it.

all of the kidlets in the pictures are my nieces and nephews as well as hannah's foot and hand print. together they are my fruit salad. the story behind this goes:

when megan (now 15) was little, i always told her that she was the apple of my eye. when her sisters came along, they too became the apples of my eye. my nephew matthew was next. he was rounder at the bottom and smaller on the top ... resembling the shape of a pear. it was then that the fruit salad concept was born with grapes being added when connor arrived. when hannah was born, i tried to pack in as much as i could in our short time together. i called her 'hannah banana' because, if no one else would tease her, mommy would. about 6 months later it hit me like a ton of bricks ... she (and future kids, if we are so lucky) will my my/our bananas. if my brother and sister one day have babies, they too will have their own designated fruit and join that special place in my heart and soul that is reserved especiall for my wonderful fruit salad. ...xox...

in july i will have a new grape to add to my salad. my niece has a special spot saved just for her and will added right beside her big brother when she gets her.

*Adore*

This is my attempt on something new based on an art inspired photo from Rachel. It is black cardstock covered with country red texture magic by Delta. It is then drybrushed with varying colours including more red. Flowers are Prima - I wasnt loving what I had before so I added the flowers. I don't know that I like this all that much alas ... hindsight is 20/20. Heart is Heidi Swapp. Letters by Lil Davis Designs and gems from the dollar store. There is a bit if a haze on the layout from my scanner. Somehow the inside of the glass needs cleaning. IRL the colours are much more vivid and bright.

*Hiccup*

After doing a some major clean sweeps in our two spare rooms this past week, the last of the scrapping supplies were brought from my old scrap space into my scrap room. What a mess! It is piled high on my scrap desk and looks to be one of those daunting tasks that is bound to get worse before it gets better. My solution - a very quick layout to try and motivate myself. Lets hope it works!
The above layout was based on a challenge I had wanted to do during Scrapping Buddies Holiday crop. It covers both the scraplift challenge as well as the white space challenge. Below is Rachel's layout that I scraplifted.
The photo is of Katie's dog, Frodo. In December, we dog-sat him while Ryan & Katie were out of town. I wanted them to know that he was in great hands so I took this photo to ease their minds. They haven't asked us to dog-sit since ... maybe it wasn't that reassuring afterall?? ;-)

House Art

If you have ever been to my home, you know that I live in a high ranch bungalow. When you walk in you can go right downstairs or right up stairs. You also know that we have a tall wall that goes straight up to the ceiling when you walk in. I would say about 15 or so feet high. To break up the boldness and brightness of my wall colour, I have created a metal collage with various items - mostly of the garden variety!

While the fireplace is nothing to sneeze at for most people, for us it is a big deal. We made it from scratch! Everthing you see (except the top mantle piece) was nothing but flat oak. We had the wood carved and routed then spiced up with some decals. I love it! I also made the bowl that is hung above the Angel wings on a Momma-daughter outing to The Mud Oven. It reads "hearts warm when family and friends gather" It was never intended to be wall art but a chip in the bowl made it such.

During March break I will embark on a new home 'art' project and can't wait! Even if it isnt scrapping, I am very happy with these creations.

Better Something than Nothing

I did this layout sometime early 2006 with a For Keepsakes monthly kit. I even had the winning layout - yay! Things have been pretty busy as of late but I will hopefully get to having some fun in the SB room during March Break - - or so I hope. Tanya - - how about a midafternoon playdate? Methinks you need one, my friend! Anyone else care to join us?? :-)
